A New Revenue Stream: Taipei To Impound Bikes

The Taiwan News reports that Taipei City is planning to impound illegally parked bicycles.

The unprecedented measures will first be implemented near the Technology Building Station of the Mass Rapid Transit system and if all goes smoothly, will be expanded to bicycles illegally parked around the Gongguan, National Taiwan University Hospital and Taipei City Hall stations before eventually covering the whole city, according to the traffic police
.

It remains to be seen how the city plans to return bikes to the owners once the fine has been paid... seeing as they have not begun to issue bicycle licenses and so many bikes look the same. The process sounds like it is destined to become a major headache for everyone. It is also unclear where the revenue generated from bicycle impounds will go.
