Caotun Loop and Randomness

Bugs!

Why cyclists shave

What a good day on the bike. I got back to bike commuting today. My Salsa is really a Lincoln Continental.

I then did my Caotun Loop after having to skip so many days with bad weather. Things are starting to feel good. The new wheels are feeling great and I am really feeling the difference. This isn't just the "I bought something new and want to feel the difference: difference, but how everything works together. Mmmmmm!

I probably ate enough bugs to make Bear Grylls puke, but I could probably use the protein. Ahhhh... the joys of summer night rides in Taiwan.

Night Stats

I have had a lot on my mind lately and a lot of serious things are going on right now with my family, and I really didn't want to go for a ride tonight. I knew it would be the right thing to do and I forced myself to go. I am glad I did. I started out pretty well, but I was partially derailed by my train of thought and somehow got turned around toward Nantou and had to lose a little time figuring out my mistake. That little mistake took a little of my competitive edge off the ride, but I still managed to do ok. I feel much more relaxed and it really helped relieve the stress.

Stats

Distance: 29.4mi/47.3km
Time: 1:33:26

Travelist: Vote For Taiwan Cycling Route

The Travelist is conducting an online poll for the "Best Cycling Routes", and Taiwan has a couple spots on the list to compete against Arizona and the Paris-Roubaix route.

If you like cycling in Taiwan, vote on it. HERE

Training Notes:

I completed my training loop in record time last night. I usually do this route solo, every Wednesday between 6:00p.m. and 7:30pm. The roads are dark and there are lots of traffic lights and traffic to wait for... with all that in consideration, the effort is pretty good.

The best part was my feeling after I warmed up. I just forgot there was a bicycle under my ass and just was concentrating on my immediate goal in front of me. The tension in my legs melted away and I was just spinning away. Glorious!

Now this performance will be the monkey on my back until I can recreate it.

Caotun Loop:

Distance: 50km/31mi.
Max Speed: 50kph/31mph
Average Speed: 32kph/20mph
